Overview
The Town of Fort Myers Beach took a catastrophic direct hit from Hurricane Ian on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022. Streetleaf streetlights were present in Brightwater, a masterplan community developed by D. R. Horton and Lennar. During the storm the Brightwater community lost electrical power but the streetlights stayed on.
The areas we serve often face threats from hurricanes and other wind related events.
The Challenge
Hurricane Ian at 160mph struck and causing power loss for 2.6 million people and sever damages reaching $70 million. It was a near direct it on the community of Brightwater.
The Solution
Because Streetleaf streetlights are not tied to the grid, we were able to provide nightly light through 10-12 days of power outage. This is also supported by our large capacity battery storage and highly-efficient solar panels. We do not sacrifice performance for other metrics.
